TENNECO LAUNCHES THE NEW WALKER® 4 GAS ANALYZER READER

BRUSSELS, Belgium, July 2 2007:Tenneco Inc., the manufacturer of Walker® exhaust systems and catalytic converters, announced today that it is  introducing the 4 Gas Advanced Gas Analyzer Reader (4G-AGAR), an innovative piece of exhaust gas interpretation software designed to assist the installer in making accurate diagnosis of vehicle faults within seconds.

''We are excited about this new diagnostic software, we want to provide the installer with the right tools to effectively diagnose exhaust faults in a vehicle, that is user friendly, fast and efficient''said Alex Gelbcke, Vice President and General Manager Aftermarket Europe.

After training more than 5200 installers across Europe, Tenneco found that over 80% of problems with vehicles are undetected due to a lack of understanding of data from a 4 gas analyzer. More than 95% of users are not aware or do not know the correct methodology for the use of a 4 gas analyzer. The effective interpretation of gas analyzer values is a difficult task for users. Due to this, the 4 gas analyzer machines are not used to their full potential in garages.  They are normally used below 1% of their capability, and usually only to ascertain if a vehicle passes the government emission tests (MOT).

The new 4 Gas Advanced Gas Analyzer Reader by Walker® is designed to be extremely user friendly. The installer needs to simply install it on his computer and enter 4 gas values: the level of Carbon monoxide (CO),  Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Unburned hydrocarbons (HC), Oxygen (O2)) and the Lambda value. Once these values are entered, at a touch of button, the programme will instantly respond weather there is a problem with the vehicle.  If there is a problem, the software states the most likely causes and guide the installer on how to tackle the problem.  In addition, a built in feature allows the installer to print a report for the driver of the vehicle showing the issue and the steps needed to repair it.

The software is designed to detect a vast number of engine problems such as:

  • lambda sensor failures
  • rusted exhaust parts (internal and external)
  • non homologated exhausts (wrong backpressure)
  • melted catalytic converters,
  • worn out catalytic converters
  • obstructed exhausts or cats
  • problems in the ignition system (spark plugs, wires)
  • engine compression problems
  • temperature sensor malfunctions
  • leaks in the intake system, air leaks in the exhaust system
  • Dirty Air Filter
  • Obstructed intake valve ports and much more

In addition to the test and advice setup, the programme also offers a full Encyclopedia of all exhaust terminology, emission laws and a specific area in which the installer can introduce the codes from any Electronic On Board Diagnostic System (EBOD) code reader in order to obtain the meaning of all those standard codes.

The 4 G-AGAR gas analyzer is the latest addition to Walker®'s offering which includes a full range of superior corrosion protected direct-fit mufflers, and direct-fit converters that are fully homologated, following all European guidelines and  accessories including clamps, exhaust bends, reduced bushings, connection pipes ,mounting kits and flex pipes.

The 4G-AGAR software is available exclusively through Tenneco distributors and has been pre-selected as a potential nominee for the Equip Auto Innovation Award in the category garage equipment.
