Milan, November 3, 2008 – Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TEN), a leading global supplier of advanced suspension and emission control technologies for passenger cars, said today that it sees significant synergies between its passenger car and two-wheeler emission control activities.

“Motorcycle manufacturers are set to face increased challenges in the future, not only in terms of Euro 3 emissions levels, but also from the demands of the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) which is becoming increasingly severe,” said Hari Nair, president, International, for Tenneco. “Our vast experience in exhaust after treatment and the associated issues of thermal dynamics, acoustics and noise vibration and harshness (NVH), combined with our ability to manage aesthetic requirements, make us a strong exhaust partner for the world’s motorcycle manufacturers.”

Tenneco currently supplies the original equipment (OE) rear mufflers on the BMW R1200 GS and R1200 R models and the manifold-catalyst and rear muffler on the BMW HP2 Sport. In addition, Tenneco supplied rear mufflers and complete exhaust systems for former BMW models including the HP2, R1200 S, R1200 C, R1100 S, R1150 GS, and the C1, and continues to provide the replacement parts for these models today. It is also the exclusive supplier of all Harley Davidson OE mufflers.

For BMW Tenneco provides customer-specific sound engineering and works closely with the OEM on improved torque/horsepower, improved thermal management and significant weight reduction. For Harley Davidson, the company works closely with the motorcycle OEM to co-develop the brushed nickel chrome & high-temperature ceramic coating and satin chrome finish used on the mufflers, end caps & heat shields. In addition, Tenneco manufactures a portion of the Harley Davidson frame.

Tenneco is well positioned in the two-wheeler market as a result of the global design, engineering and manufacturing synergies with its passenger car suspension and emission control businesses. In September 2008 the company also completed the acquisition of the suspension business of Gruppo Marzocchi, an Italian-based worldwide leader in supplying suspension technology and products in the two-wheeler market.

“Globally networked engineering and manufacturing facilities and world-class testing facilities enable Tenneco to provide global motorcycle customers not only with integrated suspension systems, including suspension forks, shock absorbers and elastomers, but also to apply advanced emission control expertise gained in the passenger car world to this important market,” Nair concluded. In addition to its advanced technology and manufacturing activities in the US and Europe, Tenneco benefits from a newly established research and development center in Shanghai, China, an engineering facility in Yokohama, Japan and increased manufacturing support throughout Asia.

Tenneco is a $6.2 billion global manufacturing company with headquarters in Lake Forest, Illinois and approximately 21,000 employees worldwide.  Tenneco is one of the world’s largest designers, manufacturers and marketers of emission control and ride control products and systems for the automotive original equipment market and the aftermarket.  Tenneco markets its products principally under the Monroe®, Walker®, Gillet™ and Clevite®Elastomer brand names.
